A General Phase Transition Model for Vehicular Traffic
نویسندگان
چکیده
An extension of the Colombo phase transition model is proposed. The congestion phase is described by a two-dimensional zone defined around an equilibrium flux known as the classical fundamental diagram. General criteria to build such a set-valued fundamental diagram are enumerated, and instantiated on several equilibrium fluxes with different concavity properties. The solution of the Riemann problem in the presence of phase transitions is obtained through the construction of a Riemann solver, which enables the definition of the solution of the Cauchy problem using wavefront tracking. The free-flow phase is described using a Newell-Daganzo fundamental diagram, which allows for a more tractable definition of phase transition compared to the original Colombo phase transition model. The accuracy of the numerical solution obtained by a modified Godunov scheme is assessed on benchmark scenarios for the different flux functions constructed.

Phase Transition Behavior of Message Propagation in Delay Tolerant Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks∗
Abstract– The vehicular networking environment is characterized by time-varying traffic density and relatively high vehicular mobility rates. Enabling networking in the vehicular environment is challenging due to the rapidly changing topology and the vast network of roadways. In this article, we present an analytical model to describe the behavior of message propagation in a delay tolerant netw...
متن کاملDerivation of the Lattice Vehicular Model from the Boltzmann Transport Equation
In this paper, the lattice vehicular model, which is in the form the lattice Boltzmann equation is directly derived from the Boltzmann equation. It is shown that the lattice Boltzmann equation is a special discretized form of the Boltzmann equation. A 3-bit approximation, which describe uncongested traffic flow, for the discretization of the Boltzmann equation in both time and phase space is di...
متن کاملContinuous Time Stochastic Models for Vehicular Traffic on Highways
We have simulated a continuous time version of the Nagel-Schreckenberger model of vehicular traffic on highways and calculated the flux as a function of vehicle density. In the low density regime the flux increases linearly with density but becomes a power law when velocities are allowed to increase without bounds. We have simulated also a modified version in which the state of a vehicle depend...
متن کاملA neuro-fuzzy approach to vehicular traffic flow prediction for a metropolis in a developing country
Short-term prediction of traffic flow is central to alleviating congestion and controlling the negative impacts of environmental pollution resulting from vehicle emissions on both inter- and intra-urban highways. The strong need to monitor and control congestion time and costs for metropolis in developing countries has therefore motivated the current study. This paper establishes the applicatio...
متن کاملTraffic Flow Models with Phase Transitions
The theory of hyperbolic conservation laws has been successfully applied to the study of vehicular traffic flows. We present here some models showing phase transitions, that in terms of traffic flows correspond to two distinct behaviors, free or congested.
